Hopt Sauce - Naughty Or Nice

Hopt Sauce - Naughty Or Nice?

HOP'T Sauce began as a hobby when Sammi (HOP’T Sauce Founder) was living in New York. His love of craft beer combined with being a foodie led him to explore the craft beer and food scene of New York, leading him to enjoy great beers while discovering homemade hot sauces. The two discoveries happening at the same time put an idea in his head – combining the citric flavours and aromas of hops with the heady spice of hot sauce, this seemed like the perfect combination. From this, HOP’T Sauce was born!

The brief: HOP’T Sauce were working on a collaboration hot sauce with Norweigan brewery Amundsen. Sweet and spicy, this blueberry infused sauce with maple syrup was inspired by one of Amundsen’s festive Stouts, ‘Christmas Morning’. Sammi was great to work with an offered an open brief based around the name “Naughty or Nice” with the main focus being injecting fun, colour and the idea of spicy (naughty) and sweet (nice) flavours into the label.

The Solution: I went away and brainstormed a number of ideas, my (and thankfully Sammi’s) favourite of which was taking the can artwork from Amundsen’s Christmas Morning stout, and carrying it on, to reveal a continuation to the original design / story. This design would reveal naughty and nice food characters whispering into Santa’s ear. I was lucky enough to work with Amunden’s artist, Peter-John de Villiers on this label. I drew an outlined continuation of the label that I wanted to create. He then worked his style into this and sent over the files, allowing me to work into it adding the ingredient characters and finish off the label. A fun project and super tasty sauce!
